What’s New in F-Secure 25.2:

New Device Protection Security Core

This update introduces a new security core, bringing significant changes to how protection settings and features are managed, streamlining user views and controls.

After the product has been upgraded to 25.2, there will be a period of several minutes while the new Device Protection components are being installed; during the upgrade, Windows Defender will temporarily activate.

User interface changes:

• “DeepGuard” is renamed to “Behavior Detection”.
• The “Files checked” and “Files blocked” counters now track both signature-based and behavior detection scanning. “Applications verified” and “Applications blocked” counters are no longer displayed. These counters will reset to zero with the upgrade.
• Real-time protection settings have been simplified and are under “Virus Protection”.
• The “Ransomware Protection” feature is now integrated into “Virus Protection” and is no longer separate.
• “Scanning settings” page is removed, with controls now under the “Device Protection” page.
• Running speed for scheduled scans can no longer be configured.
• Updates for Device Protection are now grouped under a single update entry.
• Security Cloud setting is no longer available on the Privacy page.
• “Turn off protection” button is no longer available on the Support page.

App and File Control:

• Quarantined files from previous versions are not accessible or restorable. A tool to restore them may be provided later if needed.
• “Ransomware Protected” folders can no longer be configured, and the “Protected” tab has been removed.
• The “Report…” button has been removed. False positives can only be reported through the “Device Protection” section under “Submit a sample” in the main user interface.

Additional Changes:

• Tamper Protection protects only Device Protection components, not all product components.

Rewritten Scam Protection Security Core

The underlying technology providing the Scam Protection feature has gone through significant rewriting. Although the functionality is still the same, the underlying architecture has been simplified providing better reliability and performance. After the upgrade, restart your web browser to ensure protection features work correctly.

New VPN Core (rolling out in stages)

This update also introduces a new VPN core, bringing enhanced performance and reliability. This update includes new server locations and the introduction of new protocols.

• Hydra and WireGuard protocols have been added, while the IKEv2 protocol is no longer available.
• Tracking Protection feature has been removed.
• Microsoft Store apps cannot be added to the VPN bypass list.

Note: While customers will receive version 25.2, the new VPN core will be rolled out gradually in stages. Some users may receive it later as part of a phased release.

Other Improvements

• Subscription page has new look and feel.
• The Browsing Protection menu in the browser toolbar has new look and feel and has a shortcut to the Settings.
• Shopping Protection 4- and 5-star rating notification is shown only once per website during a browsing session – restarting the browser or device shows the rating again for the already visited website (version 6.4.2).
• A new VPN system tray icon has been introduced for easy access to VPN controls and status. The icon’s visibility can be managed through the Settings UI.
• Automatic updates are no longer run when battery level is critical, or power saver mode is on to prevent power loss during updates.
