Specifications

R-Drive Image utility provides disk image files creation for backup or duplication purposes. It is one of the best backup and disaster recovery solutions to prevent losing your data after a fatal system failure. Using R-Drive Image, you can completely and rapidly restore your system after heavy data loss caused by an operating system crash, virus attack or hardware failure.

A disk image file contains the exact, byte-by-byte copy of a hard drive, partition or logical disk. And you can create with various compression levels on the fly without stopping Windows OS and therefore without interrupting your business.

These drive image files you can then store in a variety of places, including various removable media such as CD-R(W)/ DVD, Iomega Zip or Jazz disks, etc.

R-Drive Image restores the images on the original disks, on any other partitions or even on a hard drive’s free space on the fly.

You can also use R-Drive Image for mass system deployment when you need to setup many identical computers. In other words, you can manually setup one system only, create an image of the system. And then deploy it on all other computers, saving your time and costs. If you need to restore only certain files from a disk image, you can connect that image as a virtual disk and copy those files directly from the disk image using Windows Explorer or any other file utility.

R-Drive Image 7 features:

  • A simple wizard interface – no in-depth computer management skills are required.
  • On-the-fly actions: Image files are created on-the-fly, no need to stop and restart Windows. All other disk writes are stored in a cache until the image is created.
  • Removable media support. Image files you can store on removable media.
  • Startup version. Use a startup version to image / restore / copy partitions locked by the OS.
  • USB 2.0 and 3.0 support in the startup version. It is an ideal (fast and reliable) solution for storing backup files for system and other partitions in the startup version.
  • Network support in the startup version. R-Drive Image startup version supports disk image file creation and restoration over the Microsoft network (CIFS protocol).
  • Extended List of the supported devices in the startup version. The list of hardware supported by R-Drive Image startup versions has been extended.
  • An image file can be connected as a read-only virtual disk. Such disk can be browsed through and files/folders can be found and copied.
  • Individual files and folders restoration. Individual files and floders rather than entire disk can be restored either during the restoring action or from a image file connected as a virtual disk.

More Features:

  • Simple wizard interface. Almost all actions can be specified by several mouse clicks, no in-depth computer management skills are required.
  • Multi-language User Interface: English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Portuguese, Traditional and Simplified Chinese, and Japanese.
  • Support for S.M.A.R.T. warnings. If a hard drive has a risk of a possible hardware failure, its S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) system throws special warnings. R-Drive Image displays such warnings and includes them into its confirmation e-mails.
  • Individual files backup. Individual files can be saved in image files or simply copied to a designated folder. Files are copied differentially (only changed files are copied). If specified, files deleted in the source location are also deleted in the destination location.
  • Batch mode: Advanced file filtering to make it easier to find and mark files. File filters can be created using a graphical user interface or written manually.
  • Support for cloud services. Image files can be saved to various cloud services and restored back to the local system. Google Drive®, Microsoft OneDrive and Dropbox are supported.
  • Image replications. Multiple copies of the same image are saved during a single imaging process. One copy of the image file is created in the primary location, and then the file is replicated to other locations. Multiple copies of a single image file greatly improve the safety of the image.
  • Rotation Schemes (a further development of backup sets): Sets of files (usually consisting of a full image and differential / incremental backups) treated as single units. Those units are stored for some predefined time and then replaced by newer ones according to certain rules.
  • Rotation schemes balance data retention and restoration needs with the amount of storage space used to store backups. Predefined and custom rotation schemes are supported. Custom rotation schemes are available in the Corporate, Technician, Commercial, and OEM kit licenses.
  • Virtual Drive Mounting allows to mount created image files as read-only virtual drives and all files on such drives are accessible by Windows and other applications.
Detailed and versatile logs accessible directly from the user interface.
  • Mass system deployment: R-Drive Image can be used to set up many identical computers. Once one computer is fully set up, its disk image can be created and then deployed to all other computers to reduce time and costs.
  • System Recovery OEM (system recovery disk) is a part of the R-Drive Image OEM kit to run the software from startup (bootable) disk(s) and restore a failed computer system to factory (assembler) setup. It can also be a CD, DVD, USB, ZIP drive or any other removable storage device.

New R-Drive Image features in version 7.x :

  • A new, completely redesigned wizard interface with improved graphical controls, drag and drop object manipulations, and visual source and target binding.
  • A partition manager that allows the user to delete, wipe, create, and re-size partitions and logical disks.
  • Image creation from individual files, not only from disk objects.
  • Advanced and versatile logs accessible directly from the user interface.
  • Advanced file filtering to make search for files and marking them easier. File filters can be created directly on a R-Drive Image panel or set/edited manually (Batch mode).
  • Support for rotation schemes (a further development of backup sets). A rotation scheme is a set of files (usually a file for a full image of an object and a number of its incremental/differential backups) which R-Drive Image treats as one unit. Rotation schemes are used to flexibly control the parameters of complex backup tasks. R-Drive Image supports predefined and custom rotation schemes. Custom rotation schemes are available in the Corporate, Technician, and Commercial licenses.
  • Support for the VMDK file type, a popular virtual machine disk format (only in Corporate, Technician, and Commercial Licenses).

New R-Drive Image features in version 6.x :

  • Support for the APFS file system including the APFS Fusion Drive.
  • Automatic update of the device list for disk imaging/copying and boot / OEM media creation operations.
  • When R-Drive Image runs out of available free space while creating an image, a new place can be specified, and the image will be split accordingly.
  • Task progress for running tasks and tooltips with detailed information on selected tasks are shown in the scheduled task list.
  • The Locked disk dialog box shows the list of processes and files that lock the disk.
  • Support for automatic partition resizing for dynamic disks.
  • Support for Windows Storage Spaces (Windows 8/8.1/10/Threshold 2/Anniversary/all Creators update), Linux mdadm RAIDs and Logical Volume Manager volumes, and Apple CoreStorage/File Vault/Fusion Drive Volumes and RAIDs.
  • UEFI boot for the startup version.
  • Support for HFS+ partition resizing.
  • Support for secure connection (SSL) in mailing out reports.
  • When creating images, content of files like pagefiles.sys, hiberfil.sys, etc, is skipped when the Backup actual data only option is selected.
  • Support for HiDPI (retina-like) screens for the startup version.
  • Support for S.M.A.R.T. attributes for NVME devices.
  • Support for Task Scheduler 2.0.
